Supporting Families During Bereavement
Offer specifics, not open-ended help. 'I will bring dinner on Thursday' is easier to accept than 'let me know if you need anything'.
Protect the practical load: phone calls, guest lists, transport for elderly relatives, and printing. These small tasks are what exhaust a bereaved family.
Do not rush the grief timetable. Mourning does not conclude at the graveside; check in again at one month and at the first anniversary.
Speak the name of the person who died. Families rarely want the subject avoided — they want their loved one remembered aloud.
